‘Last place has changed’ Kansas City, last place overall ‘a total disaster’

The Oakland Athletics, who looked set to have their worst season ever, moved up one spot in the overall rankings. The Kansas City Royals dropped to 30th out of 30 teams.

Kansas City hosted the Boston Red Sox on April 4 at Kauffman Stadium in Kansas City, Missouri, USA.

The Royals lost the game 3-7 after Zack Greinke, the team’s second starter, gave up three runs in 3 2/3 innings.

With the loss, Kansas City is now 42-96 on the season with a .304 winning percentage, falling into 29th place behind the Oakland Athletics, who are 42-95 with a .307 winning percentage.

Kansas City has a run differential of -189 to date, well ahead of Oakland’s -296. However, they are not performing as well as they should.

Their 29th-30th place battle will likely continue throughout the month. The 28th-place Colorado Rockies are quite a bit further back with a 50-86 record and a .368 winning percentage to this point.

The reason for their poor performance is simple. They have few good pitchers and few good hitters. Brady Singer, Jordan Lyles, and Greinke, who anchor the starting rotation, all have ERAs over 5.

At the plate, no one has an OPS over .800 except for Bobby Witt Jr. Salvador Perez has 21 home runs, but he has a double-digit walk rate.안전놀이터

The bullpen is also struggling, with all four pitchers with 30 or more appearances posting ERAs above 4. Aroldis Chapman, who was pitching well, was traded.

Kansas City’s heyday came in the mid-1980s with George Brett and in the mid-2010s, when they won two World Series titles behind a strong bullpen.

Their best season was 1977, when they went 102-60 for a .630 winning percentage, and their worst was this season. The previous lowest winning percentage was 0.346 in 2005.
