After 1-3 straight strikeouts, Hyun-Jin Ryu dominates CLE batters and cruises to first win

The “Korean Monster,” Ryu Hyun-jin, 36, of the Toronto Blue Jays, continues to cruise to his first big league victory in 438 days.

Ryu pitched a perfect game through three innings against the Cleveland Cavaliers in the 2023 Major League Baseball World Series at Progressive Field in Cleveland, Ohio, on Monday (Aug. 8).

Ryu got off to a good start in the top of the first, getting Cleveland leadoff hitter Stephen Kwan to ground out to first base. He then got Andres Jimenez to fly out to shortstop for two easy outs. He then got Jose Ramirez to ground out to the pitcher to end the inning.

In the bottom of the second, he continued to pitch well. He got leadoff hitter Oscar Gonzalez to fly out to right field, Cole Calhoun to fly out to left field, and Gabriel Arias to strike out swinging.

Ryu continued to showcase his form in the bottom of the third. He struck out leadoff man Bryan Rocchio, got Myles Straw to fly out to right field, and induced Bo Naylor to ground out to second base to end the inning.

However, the Toronto offense didn’t provide Ryu with any run support until the third inning. Two batters later, Vladimir Guerrero Jr. doubled to lead off the inning, but was stranded when George Springer struck out swinging.

Ryu set a big league record of 75 wins against the Los Angeles Angels on May 27 last year, but has been sidelined by surgery and rehabilitation for the past year. In his major league return on May 2 against the Baltimore Orioles, Ryu took the loss after allowing four runs on nine hits and one walk in five innings.메이저사이트

With a win tonight against Cleveland, he’ll have 76 major league wins in 438 days.

In the top of the fourth inning, the teams are tied at 0-0 with the Toronto offense on the rise.
